  The monument marking the zero point of the Trans-Sulawesi highway, in Aertembaga Satu. The road that runs to the far end of this island starts next door.

  The deep-sea fishing port in Aertembaga Satu, one of the most important tuna ports in eastern Indonesia. It is open to the public; people sit on the jetty and watch the boats work.

  A small wildlife park on the edge of the strait, in Kelurahan Tandurusa — the same district as Winenet Dua.

  Ten to thirty minutes by boat. The Trikora monument, the white sand at Pintukota, and a 35-metre statue of Christ at Dorbolaang standing on a platform shaped, seen from above, like a boat.

  Batu Angus lava field

  A field of black lava rock on the shore — a lava dome formed in the 1801 eruption of Gunung Tangkoko, as recorded by the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program. Visitors walk a pebble beach and can climb Gunung Botak for views over the strait. The commonly published route to it starts at Pasar Winenet.

  Gunung Dua Saudara

  The two peaks standing directly behind the village. The usual trek starts from Kelurahan Pinangunian in this same district. There is no fixed trail and mud all the way up.

  Tangkoko Nature Reserve

  Home to the Critically Endangered yaki (Macaca nigra), Gursky’s spectral tarsier — which locals call wusing — bear cuscus, and the knobbed hornbill, known here as burung taong. Protected since 21 February 1919. A local guide is mandatory.

  The nearest international airport, at Manado. Via the toll road the drive is now under an hour.
